Weekly Bazaar: an old tradition with many advantages for contemporary people

Apart from shopping malls, hyper and super markets, there are 14 weekly Bazaars (market) in Sari, usually known as the name of the specific days which are held on, such as Saturday Bazaar (Shanbe Bazaar), Monday Bazaar (Doshanbe Bazaar), and Thursday Bazaar (Panjshanbe Bazaar).

Holding weekly Bazaars is one of the old traditions in Mazandaran, especially in Sari. Since hundred years ago, people (especially villagers) have brought their crops to the cities to sell. These days, weekly bazaars still continue their existence. Most of people’s everyday needs such as vegetables, groceries, and even clothes are available there.

Sari city management advocates and supports holding weekly bazaars due to their many advantages. The appropriate prices, control of prices, reduction of intracity trips, reduction and control of traffic flow are some of the advantages which are counted for weekly bazaars. They can even be considered as one of the tourist attractions of Sari.

Sari weekly bazaars are held under the supervision of “the organization of urban business and agricultural products planning of Sari Municipality”.
